Book Review: No Plan B by Lee Child

Holy shit, I need more Jack Reacher in my life.

It’s been four years since I read my first Lee Child book. I’d heard about Jack Reacher before, seen that Tom Cruise movie from a while back, and I remember loving the book.

But for some reason I never picked up another one.

Then late last year my wife and I were looking for a new show to watch. I’d seen trailers for the latest season of Jack Reacher, heard it recommended by a couple of colleagues, and I remembered loving that book I’d read a while back. My wife didn’t need much convincing and after two episodes we were hooked. We binged the whole series in record time.

So when I found a couple of Lee Child books in the grab-a-used-book-for-free shelf near our local shop, I got one for myself and one for my wife. And it was just as good as the first one!

No Plan B follows Reacher as he gets caught up in a murder that’s made to look like a suicide, in broad daylight. Being the curious, selfless ex-military drifter he is, he can’t help wanting to figure out what’s whatโ€”and he doesn’t mind bringing a handful of low-life criminals to justice and getting his hands dirty in the process. Soon enough he’s caught up in a crazy web of lies, deceit, cover ups and conspiracy… and what a wild ride it is!

I finished this book in about 24 hours, in two sittings. That’s the thing with Reacher novelsโ€”they’re the ultimate page turners. For me it’s Reacher’s no bullshit attitude, combined with Lee’s no nonsense, fast-paced action writing style that does it. Even if I wanted to look away, I can’t! And it doesn’t hurt that the plot is actually good as well, the mystery is enthralling and the twist are absolutely excellent.

The only problem I have now is that my wife hasn’t finished her Reacher book, so we can’t swap yet.

Are you a fan of Lee Child and Jack Reacher? Did you watch the show? Do you have another favorite action hero you’d recommend? Let me know in the comments!
