I… what? Wasn’t it just December?
I feel like this happens every year. There’s a build up towards the end, toward Christmas, the end of the year, all the celebrations and BOOM!—suddenly it’s April.
Okay, so it’s not that bad, or at least it wasn’t this time it is only February after all. But still, why (and perhaps more importantly how?) does this keep happening?
I suppose in general it has to do with rushing into regular life after New Year’s. Going back to work, getting back into routines and good, old habits. Don’t get me wrong, I love my routines. From getting up early and eating my breakfast I prepared the night before, to writing a bit before I run to the gym and get the day’s training session out of the way before I leave for work. I wouldn’t have it any other way—it makes me feel efficient and full of purpose.
But it also makes the days go fast. So when I go away from a holiday period where perhaps my schedule is a bit more open and lenient into super-busy-schedule-time it makes every single day rush by. Then, suddenly, a week or two has gone by without me even realizing.
Also, I suppose this year specifically, it has a lot to do with my wife and I travelling across the world and going to Tasmania for five weeks. It was a belated honeymoon (our first planned trip was stopped by the pandemic), but it was amazing, we had a great time, and we hoped it would never end.

In one sense, it felt like it almost didn’t. The adventures just lasted and lasted and kept getting bigger and grander.
And then suddenly we were back home, and January was almost over. We spent a week or so walking around getting to grips with things and shaking off the jet lag, and by then it was already February.
So to get back to where I started this post… how did it go by so fast?
I don’t know. Maybe I’m not supposed to know, or understand. There’s a lot of fun stuff to get back into and I enjoy my routine anyway, so it doesn’t really matter.
I’m already hard at work several different projects: I’m curating an anthology with Something Or Other Publishing. It’s called Moerk Skog: The Dark Forest and it’s going to be a dark, horror and dystopian-themed collection. We have a lot of great stories already, but we’re still looking for more, so if that’s something you’d be interested, consider answering the open call.
I’m also revising and editing the sequel to my Norwegian YA fantasy adventure Fjordbeist. Last year saw me finally release something in my native Norwegian and I can’t wait to continue the story. It’s going to be a little while until it sees the light of day, but I’m very excited.
I also have a couple of new things on the horizon. There are future books coming with my long time publishing partner Inked In Gray Press and I hopefully also have a new horror novella coming out with a new publisher. It’s all been edited, handed in, and contracts are signed – now we’re just sorting the formalities. I also sold a story to the Other Stories podcast at the start of the year, and I can’t wait to share that with you.
Finally, I’m also writing something new and I can’t begin to describe how fun that is. Just a new draft, a new story – albeit a follow up to something I’ve written before – but it’s been great to just sit down and let the creative juices flow and type away at something fresh. It’s very inspiring.
So, yeah… It’s been a wild start to the new year, and I don’t quite understand how we’re a week into February already, but I love it. I can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for me.
As always – if you want to support me, please check out all my books and stories. And thanks for being a reader. Bye for now!
